About the Event
Scenario-Based Shul Safety Training—hands-on, real-world training built around incidents that have actually compromised shul safety in the past. This course places Shul Safety Officers and Greeters into realistic scenarios where they learn to identify threats early, communicate clearly, and make sound decisions under pressure—including when to de-escalate, disengage, or engage.
This is practical training that goes beyond theory—focused on awareness, judgment, and disciplined decision-making in real shul environments.
Presenter: Commander Rick Robertson (Retired) served with the Aurora (IL) Police Department for nearly 29 years from 1993 to 2022, progressing from Patrolman through the ranks to Commander. Throughout his career, he worked as a Community Policing Officer, Gang Investigator, Gang Crimes Detective, and Training Officer, before being promoted to Sergeant in 2002, Lieutenant in 2010, and Commander in 2020, where he oversaw the Bureau of Neighborhood Policing.
