Park Safety Watch
In response to community demand, MAGEN Chicago is proud to introduce its new Park Safety Patrol program. This initiative aims to enhance the safety and security of local parks during Shabbos, providing peace of mind for families and community members.
The Park Safety Patrol consists of male volunteers who monitor designated parks on Shabbos. Their primary role is to maintain a watchful eye on children and park activities, ensuring a safe environment for all visitors. Initially, the program will cover three parks: JCC, Lerner, and Chippawa. As more volunteers join, we plan to expand coverage to additional parks in our area.
Male volunteers are invited to apply for this program. Applicants must complete the required application process. Once approved, volunteers can schedule their preferred time blocks for patrolling.
This is an unarmed, non-confrontational park patrol. Volunteers will be easily identifiable by wearing the yellow vests provided. The patrol's main function is observation and reporting. In case of suspicious activity, volunteers will use a provided Shabbos-approved emergency phone to contact 911.
The program offers numerous benefits to the community, including increased safety in local parks during Shabbos, enhanced community involvement in security matters, and greater peace of mind for families using park facilities. As the program grows and more volunteers join, MAGEN Chicago aims to extend coverage to additional parks in the area, further improving community safety.
We encourage eligible community members to consider volunteering for this important initiative. By participating, you'll play a crucial role in safeguarding our community spaces and ensuring a secure environment for our children. Together, we can create a safer community for all.
